![]() ![]() You must make the decision early on to either ally with the Lannisters or cripple their power early on. This house was in a pivotal position in the novels and they remain so in the board game. Just don’t appear too powerful or you’ll have a combination form against you. You’re likely to have advantages you can trade off. You’re apt to be attacked on multiple sides, so find a way to reduce your enemies with tactical alliances along the way. Whatever the case, collect lands in the east and establish a solid central position. Then add the riverlands to your domain, at least those you can do while keeping the Starks at arms length. If the Starks won’t ally, destroy their navy and dominate the eastern waters by keeping navies on their coastline. Once again, find a way to make an alliance, either with Winterfell, Casterly’s Rock, or Dorne. With a central position that’s hard to attack, but with a good navy, the Baratheons are a good house to control. They also have close access to King’s Landing, making it incumbent they take control of the royal city early on. Just like with the Greyjoys, that’s an advantage, so long as House Baratheon can maintain their naval supremacy off the eastern coast of Westeros. Like the worshipers of the Drowned God, the Baratheons live on an island. House Lannister has to be active, yet smart about it. If that doesn’t work, make friends with one or two of the other houses to attack those houses from two sides. If that doesn’t work, try to get an alliance with Pike. Try to avoid outright conflict with the Tyrells if possible, though this is often easier said than done. The Lannisters must assert themselves early without spending their strength too soon, which means they must find a way to make allies. House Lannister has the Greyjoys on their doorstep, while they also have potential enemies across central Westeros and to the south. Consider them like you would Austro-Hungary or Italy in Diplomacy (Austro-Hungary is more apt), because they are ringed by enemies and are likely to be in mortal conflict soon after the game starts. The rulers of Casterly Rock are in the worst position of the bunch in this board game. You can’t strike at the Starks quite so fast (unlike in the novels), so if you can arrange and alliance with them, do it. Because you go first, you can bottle up their fleet or destroy it outright, leaving them at a disadvantage. In my mind, it’s best to make an alliance with the leader of the Starks in the early game and attack the Lannisters. If you end up at war with both at the same time, you’ll be fighting a two-front conflict you cannot win. In my experience, the masters of Pike have to make an alliance with one or the other: Winterfell or Casterly Rock. Try to seize control of the middle area of the board. At the same time, they can’t be a purely naval power or they quickly are outstripped in resources and power. The Greyjoys have a nice position if you attend to their naval strength, because their seat of power is on an island off the coast. This is one place where the books and the board game diverge, but if you don’t defend your coastline with navies, you’ll be at a disadvantage dealing with the Greyjoys and the Baratheons later in the game. If you let someone else get there first, though, you’ll be bottled up in the north.Īlso, don’t underestimate how important navies are for the Starks. Battles will be fought that could be decisive, so be careful how you approach. Controlling the Towers and the Riverlands become important as you enter the middle rounds of the game. It’s best to build up your defensive position in the northlands, collecting territories and building up your armed strength. When playing the lords of the north, you’re in a strong defensive position. ![]() House Stark Strategy How to Win A Game of Thrones: The Board Game ![]() Going generally from north to south, here is strategic advice for each playable house. Since many groups use random assignment for which player gets which house, you may not be able to employ strategy for choosing, but you can certainly use this advice once you have a bloodline assigned to you. In most players’ opinions, some of the houses are inherently better to have than others. Knowing what I know of the game, I have what I consider solid suggestions.Ĭontrolling each of the positions in the game have their benefits and drawbacks, opportunities and challenges. As I originally mentioned, I’ve played House Martell less often because we usually play with 5 players, so if my advice isn’t as sharp for that noble line, that’s my excuse. Below I’ve written strategy tips for each of the six houses you play in the expanded version of the board game. So it was sort of a combination of all those things that wound up as the idea of this film.” And while Trachtenberg and his screenwriter Patrick Aison did not come from Native backgrounds, producer Jhane Myers does. “I thought about how Native Americans, and specifically Comanche, are so often relegated to playing sidekicks or the villains,” Trachtenberg says, “never the hero. However, unlike recent, stumbling attempts to relaunch the Predator franchise, Prey also succeeds by mirroring a real culture and real world that has long been undervalued onscreen. The film is obviously a product of science fiction and fantasy, complete with invisible cloaks and the neon green blood that now looks like a historical relic itself, albeit from the 1980s. She gets that chance (and much more) when a familiar-looking alien descends from the sky to begin his own hunt. It is set 300 years ago, before much of the North American continent had been colonized by European settlers, and tells the story of Naru (Amber Midthunder), a young Comanche woman who is a gifted hunter and tracker that wants to break gender norms in her community and prove she is likewise a great warrior. Shot in roughly the same area that Alejandro González Iñárritu filmed much of The Revenant-and similarly reliant on natural light for most scenes- Prey has an elemental and deliberately antiquated aesthetic. They were, after all, about to make the first good Predator movie in nearly 40 years-and perhaps more importantly a movie that took Indigenous and First People’s experiences seriously.įilming in the Stoney Nakoda Nation, which is located near Calgary in Canada, Prey looks far removed from our modern expectations for Hollywood franchises. It was a private blessing on the production it was also the beginning of a journey for Trachtenberg’s team. “It was just in an office, and it was a very moving experience where everyone approached the elders and had very specific secret things happen that not everyone could hear. “It was profound in that it wasn’t out in the camp we had set up,” Trachtenberg explains to Den of Geek. Rather than occurring out on location, and in the wilderness where much of his upcoming Predator reimagining, Prey, takes place, it was during the day before principal photography started on Stoney Nakoda Nation lands that a small group of filmmakers were invited to participate in a ritual with local Indigenous leaders. The first tribal pipe ceremony that filmmaker Dan Trachtenberg participated in took him by surprise. ![]() ![]() ![]() The earliest evidence of Comanche presence in present-day Colorado dates back centuries ago when they roamed freely throughout this territory. ![]() ![]() All Safe and Locker Codes Here's a list of all known safe and locker locations and their associated codes. As you progress through the latter areas of the game you will find attachments for the powerful Lightning Hawk (Magnum). So what can you find inside the safes? Weapon attachments including sights and stocks are typical rewards for each of your weapons including the pistol, shotgun etc. If you mess up early, back out and interact again to start the sequence from scratch. Get the code wrong or make a mistake turning the dial and the safe will not open. Once you've "landed" on each of the numbers press the accept button to confirm the code and the safe should open. A good tip is to use the D-Pad rather than the analogue stick, counting each press for more accuracy. What is important is landing on the right number each time you turn the dial, one by one, try not to over or under turn the dial because this ruins the sequence. This isn't important in RE3 and you can unlock safes so long as you enter the numbers in the right sequence. Some players like to describe the safe code with an L or R after each number so you know which way to turn the dial. These are traditional safes with turn dial codes rather than digital controls. How to Open a Safe Once you've found a safe it's a simple case of interacting with the safe to start entering the code. Conversely, Lockers usually have more common rewards and have simple locks, such as combination locks that you must rotate.
